If you arrive at Fort Ross on a normal day, there is something to see: a wonderful museum, preserved and restored buildings. But during the Summer Fesivals, when volunteers are there, you can meet and Russian soldier guarding the fort, and the cook, churn butter, and the scientist Ilya Voznesensky at work, commendant Rotchev with family and the Spanish envoy.
For over 10 years Kedry started volunteer help in Fort Ross. Ongoing Kedry's festivals - Christmas Kolyadki, spring Maslenitca, Midsummer Kupalo and Harvest - for many years have become a tradition in Silicon Valley. Some of us are programmers, some are a business owners - we respect and appreciate the progress of civilization but the spirit what come to us and our children in the Fort Ross is indispensable.
Firstly - we are together. Parents with their children, and children with siblings and friends. Secondly, at Fort Ross you can do so many interesting and authentic things if you are a volunteer.
Fort Ross becomes a favorite and meaningful. It is a strong point in the study of Russian and American history, which is divided for children on "before the Fort" and "after." (Coincidentally, in 1812 - the year of foundation of Fort Ross - became truly a turning point in the history of Russia.) Fort Ross for us is a place where the public respect and learn the language, customs and history of the country where our ancestors come from. So we're friends now!
